Objectives of the Hands on Training

Molecular diagnostic methods detecting nucleic acid and mutations in the genome of microorganisms have revolutionized the diagnosis and treatment of infectious diseases.  Molecular tests has been widely applied in recent years for rapid an confirmatory diagnosis in outbreaks and epidemics.

Application of these techniques in the diagnostic laboratory requires clinical microbiologist to be familiar with these methods. Trained faculty from Department of Microbiology, Pondicherry Institute of Medical Sciences, Puducherry  in collaboration with  senior faculty  from Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences,Hyderabad  and Institute of Medical Sciences ,BHU, Varanasi as facilitators, are organizing a hands on workshop on  some of common molecular techniques used in the diagnosis of various infectious diseases. The participants will be familiarized with  DNA extraction, conventional Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR), Loop Mediated Isothermal Amplification (LAMP) assay and Line Probe Assay (LPA).

The objectives of the training workshop will be achieved through comprehensive hands-on practical sessions, demonstrations, lectures and discussions. .

Specific objectives
The specific objectives of the workshop will be,
·    To train the participants in using reagents and equipment for molecular biology.
·  To impart knowledge on how the molecular detection methods work, and the different types of detection technologies available
·  To develop the capacity of participants in using molecular detection procedures like PCR, LAMP, LPA.
·To provide the participants hands-on experience on PCR and an insight into the LAMP, LPA and analysis of the results.
